Module 1-7

Atomic Number
Number of protons in the nucleus of an atom of an element
Atomic Mass
The weighted average of the masses of the isotopes of an element
Electronegativity
Tendency of an atom to attract electrons around it to itself when its chemically combined with another element.

Ionization energy

The energy required to remove an electron from a gaseous atom.
Isotopes
Atoms of the same element that have the same atomic number but different atomic masses due to a different number of neutrons.
Polar bonds
Bond formed when two different atoms are joined by a covalent bond and the bonding electrons are shared unequally
Mole
Number of substance that contains 6.02 x 1023 representative particles of that substance
Synthesis Reaction
Two or more substances combine to form a new compound
Decomposition Reaction
A single compound undergoes a reaction that produces two or more simpler substances
Double replacement
The ions of two compounds exchange places in an aqueous solution to for two new compounds.
Combustion Reaction
A substance combines with oxygen, releasing a large amount of energy  in the form of light and heat.
